Toddler Program
Program Overview
Fernwood's Todder Program is a Montessori Program tailored for 2-year-olds with both full-day and half-day options. The Toddler Classroom is a prepared environment with child-sized furniture and developmentally appropriate materials, encouraging purposeful exploration and peaceful classroom engagement. Our teachers promote independence through Practical Life activities in which children develop fine and gross motor skills and care for themselves and their indoor and outdoor environments. Emphasizing the Montessori principle of “Help me to help myself,” children actively engage in dressing and undressing, putting on their own shoes and jackets, and working towards toilet independence.

The Toddler community is geared towards freedom of choice, allowing children to become autonomous beings through the exploration of their immediate surroundings. Their positive interactions with peers, adults, and nature encourage the construction of a supportive and integrated community.

Children entering Fernwood's Toddler Program need not be toilet trained initially; we collaboratively work with parents on this process. As children near three years old and achieve toilet training, a potential transition to the Primary Program may begin.
